December 17, 2022In October 2022, Laura Wilson published a book, “The Writers: Portraits”, which includes photographs of 38 authors from around the world, including Haruki Murakami,
According to Murakami’s recent interview, he went to Hawaii in February this year for the first time after the pandemic. He stayed there for three-four weeks (and listened to the news of the Russian invasion of Ukraine). That time, Laura Wilson came from NY to take a photo of Murakami.
We, the readers, read the book and create an image of the author within us. And our imaginations are crossed when confronted with Wilson’s book-inspired photographs of the actual author. We are then reminded of a passage from the writer’s text and extend our imagination.
Me here and now, on the north shore of Kauai. Sometimes when I think of life, I feel like a piece of driftwood washed up on shore. As I run, the trade winds blowing in from the direction of the lighthouse rustle the leaves of the eucalyptus over my head.
What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, Haruki Murakami
